Avid T-shirts are here!
Brooks Ellis, an MHS Junior, AVID student, and AVID club president, is a guest speaker finalist for the 2006 AVID Summer Institute. Each summer the institute has student speakers share their inspirational stories. Students are invited to submit an essay about themselves and their AVID story. Brooks took it upon himself to write an essay and submit it, independently. This was not a class assignment. We are all very proud of Brooks for taking the initiative. We'll keep our fingers crossed that he is one of the students chosen to present at AVID's Summer Institute this summer. : )
AVID Write Off
I would like to announce our AVID Write-off winners. LA County AVID has an essay contest each year, the AVID Write-off, and each school selects a winner from each grade level to be sent to LACOE. There they compete against the other submitted essays from AVID students in their grade level. This year our AVID Site Team chose the following students for 1st place: 7th grade - Simone DeMarco
8th grade - Giovanni Marinello-Silva
9th grade - Christian Boothby
10th grade - Jessica Kaplan
11th grade - Justin Schwartz
12th grade - Danny Lopez
