Arts Angels Minutes - Meeting 1/6/06
Meeting called to order at 1:25p.
There will be no Shark Fund Gala at the musical this year. The Shark Fund
wants to organize a Casino Night to benefit the Shark Fund.
Six quilts are being prepared by the Arts departments this year. They may
be sold during intermission at the musical or at Casino Night - this has not
yet been decided. It was suggested that we auction one quilt each night
during Aida at intermission.
Bill Bixler reported that a parent donated a bassoon and a clarinet in good
condition to the music department.
The sound system in the auditorium needs work before the next performance.
General fundraising was discussed. As donations to the Shark Fund are down,
we may want to do our own fundraiser, but no one is sure what we are allowed
to do. The football team has a dinner at Dukes every year and raises
$50,000. Is the Art Department allowed to do a gala? Sheila Murray will
ask Dr. Kelly.
A fundraiser involving all the arts departments was discussed. Perhaps at a
gallery? Various locations were discussed, but all presented problems.
Perhaps we could have it in the gym and put up temporary walls to hang the
artwork. Students could possibly sell their work, with a "gallery fee"
going back to the school.
Allison and Joanne will form a committee to discuss a possible gala.
Dan Rickard reported that roof work which occurred over the holidays caused
a leak in his roof which flooded the kiln. In addition, both of his rooms
are covered in a white powder of undetermined chemical composition. Dan
will have the powder tested for asbestos or other hazards. It is unknown if
the kiln is still usable.
The Middle School musical, Secret Garden, will be held February 23-26.
Masque will take place the second to the fourth of March.
The middle school orchestra kids participated in a music video for the group
"Death Cab of Cutie". (sp???)
The next meeting will be held on 2/3/06.
